Full face gas mask with ABEK2 P3 filter
The Spasciani TR 2002 full face mask with the ABEK2 P3 screw-in filter (Spasciani 203 A2B2E2K2P3) protects against solvents, inorganic and acid gases, ammonia and dust. Here is what it stops, which filter fits your job and what it costs. Sold within Italy only.

How to read the ABEK2 P3 code
Each letter is a group of substances with its own colour band on the filter label. The number is the class, meaning how much the filter can hold. ABEK2 P3, ABEK2P3 and A2B2E2K2P3 are the same filter: the full form repeats the class after each letter.
| Code | Protects against | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| A | Organic gases and vapours boiling above 65 °C | solvents, thinners, paints |
| B | Inorganic gases and vapours, except carbon monoxide | chlorine, hydrogen sulphide, hydrogen cyanide |
| E | Acid gases | sulphur dioxide, hydrogen chloride |
| K | Ammonia and its organic derivatives | livestock housing, refrigeration plants |
| P3 | Particles: dusts, fumes and mists, highest efficiency | asbestos, silica, spray mists |
The 2 means class 2, medium capacity: the filter is used up to 0.5% gas by volume (5,000 ppm); class 1 stops at 0.1%. P3 is the highest class of particle filter.
Which filter for your job
Ten jobs, from professionals to people keeping a mask at home: each has a page with the hazards, the filter to start from and the limits.
| Job | What is in the air | Filter to start from |
|---|---|---|
| Car body shops and spray painting | solvents and paint mist | A2P3 |
| Building and wood painting | solvents, wood stains | A2P3 |
| Pesticides in the field and in greenhouses | spray vapours and mists | A2P3 or ABEK2 P3 |
| Pest control | depends on the product | the one on the safety data sheet |
| Livestock farming | ammonia | K2P3 |
| Chemical industry, laboratories, water treatment | chlorine, acids, ammonia, solvents | ABEK2 P3 |
| Industrial cleaning and sanitising | chlorine, ammonia, formaldehyde | ABEK2 P3; 205 for formaldehyde |
| Asbestos removal and dust | fibres and fine dust | P3 |
| Emergency response teams | substances not known in advance | ABEK2 P3 |
| Emergencies at home | toxic clouds from accidents, volcanic ash | ABEK2 P3 |
This is a starting point, not a prescription. The right filter is stated on the safety data sheet (SDS) of the substance you use; at work, choosing PPE is the employer's job, and a full face mask is category III PPE, which requires training.

When a filter is not enough
A filter cleans the air that is there; it does not add any. Below 17% oxygen no filter protects you.
No ABEK filter stops carbon monoxide, the first danger in a fire.
In a well, a tank or a slurry pit the air can kill in a few breaths: go in only with a self-contained breathing apparatus, and only if trained.
